Look :O)Ok guys, I had to show you... yes its the wrong time of year for this. Should from what I have read bloomed in the fall. But we have had a mild weird winter. Its been what 2 years in the making..... I picked this today!!!!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gSewd09_-8U/VrfKsrbw55I/AAAAAAAAHlc/NK9ndnMvlLo/s1600/DSCN0675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gSewd09_-8U/VrfKsrbw55I/AAAAAAAAHlc/NK9ndnMvlLo/s320/DSCN0675.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
So yall remember back when I saw some of my saffron bulbs had rotted due to alllll the rain last spring. Well we all discussed what to do .. leave the good ones. Dig them up and try again in another bed. Well I decided to leave them. I found enough good ones digging around in the bed that I figured as fast as Saffron is suppose to multiply I would be ok <b>IF</b> they lived. <br />
<br />
Well this year when I thought for sure well I lost them all as they didn't come up when I thought they should.... then they shot up green stems and I knew I had not lost them. e<br />
<br />
But the darn rabbits had a field day with it... I had to get out there and redo my wire low tunnels and cover with something... Which took me way to long to get to but I at least knew they were alive and from what I saw I had every bit as many as I had planted and maybe more!!!<br />
<br />
So finally I redid my low tunnel hoops out of 1/4" steel rod (well actually honeyman bent those for me) then I covered the whole low tunnel in fruit tree netting. So the rabbits could not get to them at all to eat them....I figured it was way to late to see any saffron but I knew that I still had a bed of bulbs alive and so I was a happy girl...<br />
<br />
Then after the rabbits couldnt get to it to eat the green tops off to the ground.. It shot back up and I thought maybe I might get a few blooms.... Wha La I got one today! Maybe I will get a few more. <br />
<br />
There is are reason they call farmers eternal optimist! Its been a 2 year road to get this little fella :O)... but I am feeling realllllly good about a full crop next year!!! Knocking on wood!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-3575490797582599132016-02-05T17:13:00.002-08:002016-02-05T17:13:53.924-08:00Whats going on with me....Hi guys, I am still here. I get out in blog land when I can and read. :O).<br />
I have not been posting, so sorry. Just sooooooooo short on time right now.<br />
Nothing bad, actually good! Business is good with my drapery workroom and I have decided to take on a farmers market as well. I know, what on earth was I thinking?<br />
Wellllll I am thinking I would rather garden than anything else I can think of!<br />
It is what makes my soul sing.<br />
Sooooo I am trying to move in that direction, gardening for us and also see if I can make a bit of a biz out of it.<br />
In the past here, a farmers market was a market where people were selling imported produce usually from Mexico (we do live in Texas) it was the same stuff you found at the grocery store. Sadly that is still what is at a lot of "farmers markets" it makes me crazy!!! :O(<br />
BUT now organic, local grown has finalllllllly caught on. I have found a farmers market within driving distance in a town to try out.<br />
I am going to keep my drapery work room open as well. I am trying to juggle both.<br />
I enjoy reading you guys blogs as I can and will continue to do so. I will also post as I can.<br />
Thanks for hanging in there with me.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-70095710938374606442015-12-30T15:20:00.001-08:002015-12-30T15:20:34.849-08:00Baby chicks, a new threat, Coyotes aka Coyodogs?First off,,, the 13 chicks that hatched out in our incubator. They are still enjoyig life in their tub. When they are fully feathered out they will go to the chicken corral and coop to live with the other chickens. They are various ages due to Goldy stealing eggs remember LOL. <br />

<br />
I have been saving eggs and plan to hatch another batch :O). This time all the eggs will be hatched at the same time pretty much LOL..I plan to to put them in the incubator January 10th... 18-21 days later we should have a bunch of new chicks :O).<br />
<br />
I am a bit concerned with our plans to turn the chickens loose in the yard. We have a large chicken corral that is fenced but they have picked it clean. We have so much they could be eating and debugging :O)....so we decided just let them go during the day and coop up at night. Up until just recently this would be great......<br />
<br />
Welllll now we are having issues with what could be Coyodogs. Coyotes that have cross bred with large feral dogs. I know they are not regular coyotes I have seen one up close.. whew.... They are not afraid of people or dogs! They just look at you like ya, ya I am going.. or according to one neighbor they growl at your dog and you! They do not run from anyone. So far us and two other neighbors I am aware of have encountered them. There is a pair and then there is one HUGE one... they look like coyotes but are furrier and bigger and much braver!<br />
<br />
The first one I saw I kept thinking that is a coyote.... ummmm I am pretty sure.. But let me tell you the thing was huge. Keeper was barking like crazy at it through the fence but not far from it... It had come up behind our chicken corral.<br />
<br />
It didn't run from Keeper and it didn't run when it saw me either!! Was very glad there was a fence between us all! Yes Keeper right at a 150lb Great Pyrenees was going off like a rocket and it just saunters away like ok, ok, keep your fur on... ... Oh it left but it took its sweet time... then we saw the pair, they are a bit smaller, in our pasture.<br />
<br />
The neighbors and us are on full alert. Its not a good situation. They are very sure of themselves and are coming in way to close to livestock and humans in broad daylight! The pair was encountered by one of our neighbors right up in their yard by their back porch, they didn't run, they growled at the neighbor and their dog! This neighbor was not able to umm well take care of them. But would have had every right to do so given how aggressive they seem to be. Another neighbor has seen one of them in their pasture, he has cows and several are due to calf in the next few weeks. As you can well imagine he is so watching the pasture. He is well capable of handling the situation should need be. <br />
<br />
I then encountered them when I went out for a run. Our driveway is 1/4 mile long. As I was running up the drive to the road I saw them cross our driveway the pair, needless to say I turned around, ran back to the house got honeyman. They had disappeared by the time we got back out there....We have Skittles to worry about being out in the pasture. Not to mention our chickens!<br />
<br />
Always something on a farm. Predators are always a concern but when they get this brave.... they become a even bigger one!<br />
<br />

Drove 45 minutes to a Interior Design shop that I do a ton of work for. I make lots of roman shades for them.<br />
They invited me to the company Christmas party. Yes this is the shop I was working for at one time, that is now one of my clients.... after I opened my own drapery room again. So I put all my goody bags in the car for everyone. I am all dressed and ready to... 45 minute drive later I am there... I walk in and I hear the owner of the shop say<br />
<br />
" looks like Sandy got her days mixed up" ummmm???? excuse me?<br />
<br />
Guys I was a day early.. GEEEESH.... I was just sure it was today... NOT... it's tomorrow. Everyone got a good laugh out of that. LOL<br />
<br />
I have been so busy and there has been so much going on and well I guess I just got alll mixed up...<br />
<br />
She said oh well have lunch with us anyway.. I just ordered pizza and salad for the shop .. come go with me to pick it up... soooo she and I went to pick up everything and I stayed and had lunch.<br />
<br />
I will go back tomorrow for the real party LOL... I couldn't believe I did that, but lately I seem to be doing a lot of stuff like that ROFL... No doubt just being wayyyyy to busy is why...<br />
<br />
Our refrigerator died day before yesterday, not fixable.. had to buy new one and yep I had to throw away a lot of stuff from the freezer that was just mush, which grrrrrrrrr as expensive as food is. I had been out delivering roman shades that day and didn't get home till evening and well there you have it. We should have realized something was a miss as it stopped making ice two days prior to that...<br />
<br />
So yesterday honeyman took off work thank heaven to help me get a new fridge found....we have company arriving for 4 days which we are soooooo excited about!!... this Saturday! Our niece and her husband who we just love to pieces are coming to visit!!!! I wanted us to have a fridge here LOL<br />
<br />
So anyway I don't like having to buy things in a hurry, honeyman is much better at that... everything was in ice chest that was keepable so we needed to find a fridge... anyway its in the kitchen now. So we are good to go :O).<br />
<br />
Then on top of everything else....I felt really bad yesterday so I was grumpy and very easily agitated, for which I apologized like 5 times to honeyman. But man I felt really bad. He said I was pale as a ghost all day but finally when I could I went to bed. Then I went back to bed early and slept another 13.5 hours and I felt much better this morning. I couldn't even tell you well this hurt or that was wrong. I just was sooooooooooooo tired and felt drained and was dizzy. But again I am much better today. :O).<br />
<br />
I have been burning the candle at both ends for to long... I am sure that is what it was... I am taking off a couple weeks from work for the holidays.... till Janaury 4th is the plan. I have roman shade orders on the books already for as soon as I go back to work!...<br />
<br />
I have a lot I would like to get done at home while I am off.. more on that later....<br />
<br />
BUT I am going to make sure to take some time for doing NOTHING as well!<br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-13789058152709646832015-12-10T17:09:00.001-08:002015-12-10T17:19:13.920-08:00Some roman shades I have made recentlyTwo very large soft fold romans. I just finished these this last week. I can tell you these babies at 70 inches wide and nearly that long were a handful.<br />
<br />
I am so glad I have the table extension honeyman made for my drapery table! I can just raise it up with the metal table extensions and it just clicks in place... a life saver. When I don't need it then just release each extension and it lowers right back down.<br />
<br />
Making a soft fold roman wider than your table is not fun. As a matter a fact I have a limit on size I will make. I won't make one wider than 76". I can get that on my table. Soft fold romans are long to work with because they are cut twice the length of a window plus 12 inches. So they are long lengths of fabric. Even if you turn them to fit width wise going down your table then you have a pile of fabric hanging over the side. I much prefer to have it all up on the table laying flat! Even if the length does exceed my 12 foot long table at least its all flat!<br />
This photo is after I have got quite a bit of the work done :O). The tape and rings are on! I must say I always think the backs of soft fold romans are pretty :O). Kind of a work of art in themselves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Another view of the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p2bSFO77OUk/VmoeFabM6KI/AAAAAAAAHjk/jUi42L4xRPE/s1600/DSCN0636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p2bSFO77OUk/VmoeFabM6KI/AAAAAAAAHjk/jUi42L4xRPE/s320/DSCN0636.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Ok one more :O). The tan you see is the bottom hem and there is a 1.5 " pocket with the 1/4" metal rod in it. Its not strung yet and does not have the cord locks on the rings but the tape and the rings are on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ve8l2At9lsc/VmoeFiS9RMI/AAAAAAAAHjo/N8hYqBcDBm4/s1600/DSCN0637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ve8l2At9lsc/VmoeFiS9RMI/AAAAAAAAHjo/N8hYqBcDBm4/s320/DSCN0637.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Ok so we have already established in previous post, I am not a photographer :O) I am not sure why it looks like it has waffles in it lol or wrinkles. It didn't... I had a hard time with lighting this day.<br />
<br />
It sorta made me think of double knit but not in a bad way, it also made me think of a blanket. :O) It was thick and soft. My ugly shade holder and back drop don't do much for them LOL but I am sure in the room with the bedding they will look very nice. I saw the bedding. It will be a monochromatic room. Very neutral in color. I think it will be a very soothing room to be in. Its a bedroom. There were two of these big romans in it.<br />
These babies weighed a ton!<br />

Long post but decided to put it all in one while I was here posting. :O). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am very pleased so far with my winter veggies!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Things do grow slower in the cooler weather but the trade off is I am growing things now that have not done well for me in the spring. We turn off warm / hot fast here once spring hits. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am excited as I think growing right through our winter is going to be great.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The gals blog I follow that has inspired me is <a href="http://www.motherofahubbard.com/the-winter-garden-250-varieties-of-cold-hardy-plants-growing-strong/">Mother of a Hubbard</a>. She grows 365 days a year in zone 6. She has a harder winter than we do in zone 8. Her winter garden is incredible!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Pulled these this morning :O)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So recently we used some of our Amazon points to get a incubator. I planned to use it in the spring. Welllll two of our girls went broody. Esmeralda who hatched out two baby chicks and has been raising them outside. It was early enough in November they were ok out there and now have enough feathers with mom as back up for nights to do just fine outside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Goldy went broody a bit later, I gave in and gave her some eggs. She just would not snap out of it. Welllll the last week she was broody she was taking more and more breaks from the eggs. Long story short she decided being a mom was over rated. So I had a pile of eggs as she kept stealing eggs as the other girls were still laying. All the eggs are bantam eggs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I had this pile of eggs of different ages lol </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They are in the incubator and so far 6 have hatched out and another one is working on joining the world as I type this. It will be interesting to see how many chicks we get.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am raising these this chicks since its to cold to put them outside now. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Oh the stuff rabbits, well they were upset and scared at first so I put the rabbits in there for them to get under. Calmed them right down and they love getting under them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MXlBMzPKUdA/VmRzvgzv5yI/AAAAAAAAHiU/cHFF1W9Uamg/s1600/104_1392.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MXlBMzPKUdA/VmRzvgzv5yI/AAAAAAAAHiU/cHFF1W9Uamg/s320/104_1392.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t3mBinICmFc/VmRzwFYB7wI/AAAAAAAAHiY/JXYDvvYSYrk/s1600/104_1393.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t3mBinICmFc/VmRzwFYB7wI/AAAAAAAAHiY/JXYDvvYSYrk/s320/104_1393.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I dont have the eggs on the auto egg turner because they are all different ages and I don't want one to hatch out and get stuck in the auto egg turner. Ideally you would have put them all in at the same time. Then 3 days before they are to hatch you take them off the egg turner. But since Goldy kept stealing eggs well they didn't all start getting sat on at the same time. I know my bad but well it is what it is. Its working out okay.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eOL6z60uFsg/VmRzwRoVsSI/AAAAAAAAHig/NMhvQdcg43s/s1600/104_1394.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eOL6z60uFsg/VmRzwRoVsSI/AAAAAAAAHig/NMhvQdcg43s/s320/104_1394.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

For anyone curious this is the incubator we got.. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Came with a light to candle the eggs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uk5uRkTdaHA/VmR07MzVCsI/AAAAAAAAHiw/AFZVRe5jExQ/s1600/104_1370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uk5uRkTdaHA/VmR07MzVCsI/AAAAAAAAHiw/AFZVRe5jExQ/s320/104_1370.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The auto egg turner. </div>
I will tell you the directions were very vague that came with it LOL. But luckily my best bud has an incubator and she was able to tell me what to do :O).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2ONoudZ6qRY/VmR07x1PVqI/AAAAAAAAHi8/tM1bpj_dijA/s1600/104_1371.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2ONoudZ6qRY/VmR07x1PVqI/AAAAAAAAHi8/tM1bpj_dijA/s320/104_1371.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It has a digital thermometer and humidity reader, I forget what that is called. It also came with a manual old timey one that you lay inside the incubator.<br />
Then it also has a digital days read out that counts down the days.<br />
<br />
I have to tell you when that first baby chick hatched out I was just giddy! Then the second one and so. It was fantastic! :O) I told honeyman I could be dangerous with this. Chickens everywhere!!! Its unbelievably cool!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2oBU_2bHKio/VmR06ghQ2LI/AAAAAAAAHi0/-pTXQY-AKSQ/s1600/104_1369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2oBU_2bHKio/VmR06ghQ2LI/AAAAAAAAHi0/-pTXQY-AKSQ/s320/104_1369.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sorry no pictures of the saffron bed, just info.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My saffron is alive! I had totally given up on it. Figured the bulbs all rotted and well ok it was an experiment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then a few weeks back I go out to look at the raised bed thinking ok I am going to move this out of the middle of the back yard. What do I see but Saffron up everywhere! I was just shocked. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With working so much I don't always get to see everything everyday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I am thinking well if it can just bloom before the first freeze maybe I would get some saffron. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well the rabbits were just as thrilled as I was that it was up obviously.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They ate it down to about 3" tall! POOF</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I am going to have to put a netting over it to keep the rabbits from being able to get in the row. I have netting on it to keep the squirrels from digging it up. It is laying on the top of it on the row. But that didn't keep the rabbits from eating it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will for sure be covering it with plastic the whole row again as soon as it dies for the winter. I do not want to risk it rotting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think I will eventually learn what I need to know to actually get some saffron!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I do plan to redo the row add more sand for even better drainage. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just need 48 hours in a day!</div>

We do have central heat but have not used it since we got the wood stoves. Except to test it and make sure its still in working order etc. just in case we did need it. We love heating with the wood stoves. I grew up with wood stove heat so I knew it would be great, honeyman was not so sure. :O). But now he loves it too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vnZS993FnCQ/VmOD7AVS-AI/AAAAAAAAHg0/irGNtCDJlPo/s1600/20151205_105518.mp4" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vnZS993FnCQ/VmOD7AVS-AI/AAAAAAAAHg0/irGNtCDJlPo/s1600/20151205_105518.mp4" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We have a smaller wood stove (no picture sorry) with a glass door in our bedroom. We have a see through fireplace from our master bedroom to the bathroom, sadly we could not find a wood stove with glass doors on both sides. Well not in the U.S. anyway. We found one but it was in the UK. There is nothing like going to sleep with it burning and the flames flickering. Your toasty warm and it makes lovely little popping and crackling sounds, its so relaxing, romantic, calming, comfy, cozy :O)<br />
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
UPDATE<br />
This is the first time I have attached a video, I must not have done something right as it doesn't work. But the picture is there anyway :O)</div>

They thought Skittles was adorable but because he has horns they could not take him, they said. So ok I move on and keep looking.<br />
If you live close to me and are looking for a pet goat, he needs other animals, a donkey, horse, goats something, he cannot live alone that is why we are in this position, he is NOT to eat. Email me. We can talk. He is super friendly.<br />
Our location is East of Dallas.<br />
<br />
Skittles has not done well since Cubey passed away. He has never been alone in his life. He and Cube were exceptionally close and that is why we kept him to stay with her when we made the decision not to raise goats any longer. It was a easy choice, it had to be Skittles to stay with Cubey. She was not Skittles Nanny but she took care of him even when he was little to some degree.<br />
From there they just were always together.<br />
<br />
Since her passing he isn't eating good, he maws a lot, its a sad maw. He is lost. It is sad. We have decided to find Skittles a home with other goats. He has to have some other animals its simply not fair to him to be all alone.<br />
<br />
We have some feelers out now trying to find him a good pet home. We will not let him go to a home we feel he could wound up being eaten. We are not selling him, we are giving him to someone. Right now we are checking into a family who does Birthday parties for kids. They have a petting zoo for the kids, miniature horses, Shetland ponys, a goat, some other animals. I am crossing my fingers.<br />
I have assured them that I would take him back if he doesn't settle in good with the other animals.<br />
Though I know he will. He would be so elated to not be alone. He loves attention, to be petted and eat snacks. He also knows how to play a game honeyman taught him. He can be such a clown.<br />
Keep your fingers crossed for us on this home for him. I think it would be perfect for him.<br />

Well its been a busy time around here,,,<br />
<br />
This time of year the Interior Design field heats up just like retail. Everyone wanting their home to look lovely for the holidays :O) So I have been really busy with work.<br />
<br />
I have embarked on learning a new skill, something I have often thought of doing but let the "what if" keep me from doing it.<br />
I am taking online courses in computer programming, they call it coding now not computer programming. :O) Where will this lead, well I don't know! But it something I have always wanted to learn. So far I am loving it! Though I will admit with work its a bit of a struggle to keep up.<br />
<br />
Honeyman and I have been rethinking our long term plans. I can tell you giving up a dream is not a easy thing. Even thinking you are giving up a dream you have had for quite a while is very difficult...But I can also tell you that I think sometimes its good to stop, step back, try to look at something from a new perspective...where your headed etc.<br />
<br />
The winter graden rows are doing well! I have planted lots of yummy winter veggies. My onions are coming up and today I planted some elephant garlic. I have more to plant. I ordered some regular seed garlic as well and it should be in any day. Decided to plant that at the last minute. Well ok, the sale they had on the seed garlic help me decide as well. LOL<br />
<br />
Lots of changes here at our place. Not sure where it will all lead but that's ok. Yes I actually said that.... I am trying to stop thinking I must know the entire outcome of every single decision before I act. LOL I am a planner by nature, its how I do things. I like to have a plan .. expect it to go as planned LOL... Its the Capricorn in me. LOL But I have learned over 50 yrs of life.. Rarely does a plan go to plan ROFL... But I still plan anyway.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-59813750239280403102015-10-25T15:42:00.001-07:002015-10-25T15:42:47.275-07:00Seedlings up in the covered row and Keeper<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Today I planted a few things in my winter rows, we are suppose to get rain with luck tomorrow through Sunday we have a chance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RP43HrxqXMU/Vie6-f-x74I/AAAAAAAAHdU/aPavFMIpTYI/s1600/DSCN0614.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RP43HrxqXMU/Vie6-f-x74I/AAAAAAAAHdU/aPavFMIpTYI/s320/DSCN0614.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I will weigh down the frost blanket edges for sure. I used my little clips I use for everything to attach it to the low tunnel frame for now. I tied knots on the ends. The other end you cant see I put some boards.. We have rebar sticks in our left over pile....I will put those on the side that the high hoop tunnel poles are on.. I will work it form the inside so that side I won't be taking the frost blanket on and off. Figured the rebar would work really good for the side I won't be opening.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KLpvozUN4Xk/Vie69yjmPoI/AAAAAAAAHdE/i2UQK3wyLdY/s1600/DSCN0615.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KLpvozUN4Xk/Vie69yjmPoI/AAAAAAAAHdE/i2UQK3wyLdY/s320/DSCN0615.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
My frost blanket has a seam right down the middle as as you see... Honeyman ordered this frost blanket last year. He didn't think about how a 6 feet wide piece wouldn't work on a low tunnel by the time it went over it... I said no problem I can just sew two pieces together..I folded the seams insides themselves and made two seams down it so I feel it will hold just fine. he had got a 100 foot long piece. So that worked out perfect for me to cut it in half and sew it back together... I am going to order a 10 foot wide piece by 50 foot for the other row. I have to get that done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NtX-jFvFPDI/Vie7ArvWBoI/AAAAAAAAHdM/B4-yvgqRSmo/s1600/DSCN0616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NtX-jFvFPDI/Vie7ArvWBoI/AAAAAAAAHdM/B4-yvgqRSmo/s320/DSCN0616.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We just came off of a stretch of 97 degree days so its hard to think winter garden lol. I have waited till now to put any seeds out. I read that a frost blanket will act as a shade cover as well, I hope that is true. Because we have already taken down the shade covers on the High tunnels and if we go back up that warm again these winter veggy seeds are going to need shade... Honeyman said we can put the shade cover back on the high tunnel if we need to. I am so curious to see how veggies do all winter under these frost blankets! I am planting alllll sorts of cold weather veggies to see how they do! I am only doing the two rows this year.. If this works out well I will add more rows next winter!<br />
<br />
Now on another gardening issue.....I am thinking next spring of adding more depth to all of my raised beds.. I was thinking maybe another row of cinder blocks but ($$ ouch) or using that metal sheeting or something. Any thoughts from you guys on adding more depth inexpensively to my raised beds?<br />
<br />
On the cabin..... No we are not getting it. Real Estate is one of the most aggravating things .... doesn't matter buy or sell!!! geesh....... I was very disappointed but it was what it was and there wasn't anything I could do about it...... well onward and upward right.....Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-57907860641415113842015-10-16T05:09:00.003-07:002015-10-16T05:09:59.839-07:00Cabin in the woods<br />

I maybe jinxing it but isn't this pretty! Its a property we are looking at in the Ozarks. :O) A Frame Cabin. It looks kinda storybook doesn't it in the photos :O)<br />
It is a fixer upper but we feel it has potential. The drive you see is off another drive off the main road. It sits to the back of the property so good privacy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If we get it I will show you lots of photos!</div>

I looked up Japanese onion after a couple of you guys mentioned them in comments as I didn't know what they were....<br />
<br />
From what I can tell these onion sets we get here in the fall when the flower bulbs come in .....most likely are Japanese onions... One site I found said they were in fact. Some others suggested it... Either way they do good.. I do not have to cover them at all here..... they won't go under my row covers.. these made it through a light snow, a couple ices, and all the cold just fine last winter.<br />
<br />
Here is my row I have planted... I have the yellow and the red ones in there.. I have about 2/3 bag of yellow ones left to plant somewhere else.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GKmy4g1m17E/VhqECmH4RpI/AAAAAAAAHbw/nzUqff8MGeE/s1600/104_1356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GKmy4g1m17E/VhqECmH4RpI/AAAAAAAAHbw/nzUqff8MGeE/s320/104_1356.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-REBq7JpKzsI/VhqEFIA1ZbI/AAAAAAAAHb4/sib_5lXIB3o/s1600/104_1357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-REBq7JpKzsI/VhqEFIA1ZbI/AAAAAAAAHb4/sib_5lXIB3o/s320/104_1357.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It looks shady in this photo where they are but it won't be at all in another few weeks .. it gets a bit of mingled shade right now till all the leaves fall. Which actually works out great during the summer the plants need a bit o shade to deal with our sun here...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TW0ZgKrUMxs/VhqEMeFIpfI/AAAAAAAAHcA/X1fvbkGMytY/s1600/104_1359.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TW0ZgKrUMxs/VhqEMeFIpfI/AAAAAAAAHcA/X1fvbkGMytY/s320/104_1359.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Coffee grounds, I keep all the used coffee grounds and I sprinkle them on my garden rows. We drink organic coffee so they are organic fertilizer! My neighbor who grows a lot of onions and I do mean a lot ... says he gives them his coffee grounds... So I started giving mine coffee grounds too.. I always put my left over coffee in my rows but once I plant onions I give it to them till they get up good. I also put in some bone meal and blood meal when I plant onions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-39109912612825228932015-10-10T17:06:00.000-07:002015-10-10T18:32:40.642-07:00 low tunnels for use this winter with a frost blanketI plan to garden through winter this year. I have wanted to do it for a couple years but one thing or another kept me from getting set up.<br />
<br />
We decided against framing in one of our metal high tunnels and using plastic on it.... why... heat build up... In zone 8 we get to warm to many days and the heat can build up really fast so I have read if you are over 40 during the day. Growing winter veggies from what I have read on others blog who do this and are growing in much, much colder climates than mine they are using nothing more than low tunnels with frost blankets or plastic. One gals blog that I really admire ... she likes the frost blankets the best.. She grows in zone 6b and has shown many photos of her winter greens and veggies alive and well and healthy under nothing more than a frost blanket.. Even photos with those low tunnels buried in snow and the veggies are fine under the frost blanket once she scoops off the snow lol... we don't get as cold every day but yet we can get very cold here as well at night for one and some during days... so I think over all the frost blankets will be the best answer for us here....<br />
<br />
What we used and didn't use and why..<br />
PVC and 9 gauge wire are used a lot from what I am seeing... but here PVC has no life span... the heat destroys it very quickly here if its out in the summer due to the heat.. it gets brittle in one summer and then breaks super easy, simply is baked I guess to the point of brittleness in our sun and heat.. since I am not sure if I will leave my arches in or pull them up each spring we decided against pvc.... 9 gauge wire... well I used that for the low tunnel I did over my saffron bed and it did ok... but it did give way in the torrential rains we had this last spring ... it was covered with plastic so it was taking a lot of weight in all fairness... it folded... but I was able to pull it back up .. it was super easy for me bend by myself...<br />
<br />
However..... We can get 1/4" steel rod here from the steel place cheaper than we can buy the 9 gauge wire at the big box stores.. and its much stronger...<br />
<br />
Downside..its harder to bend.... but not for honeyman! He built a jig and bent all the arches for us.. we used 10' foot sticks of 1/4" steel rod.. which cost us 15 cents a foot.. so we had 1.50 in each arch.. Not bad...<br />
We live rural and were able to buy it at a steel place, actually we had two to pick from both within 45 minutes of us. When you live rural to drive 45 minutes to somewhere is not bad at all. Do some research you probably have a place that sells steel rod.<br />
<br />
Pushing the rod in the ground was kinda hard but honeyman could do it..I could not have ... well not without soaking the ground first .. we will see how it goes then .. we decided to soak the ground before doing the second row.. DUH ya I know should have done that on the first one LOL...<br />
<br />
This is the jig honeyman made to bend the steel rods on ... made from left over pile of wood from one thing or another.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
um so ok you can't tell to much about what is going on with the arch here but I really liked this photo </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8w5c-XyL-xE/VhmiHh2ZzCI/AAAAAAAAHaU/EjgJ2CTx-ss/s1600/DSCN0508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8w5c-XyL-xE/VhmiHh2ZzCI/AAAAAAAAHaU/EjgJ2CTx-ss/s320/DSCN0508.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
and this photo :O) ... yes 32 years later still the cutest a** in Texas in my opinion :O)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZA67Ym_qAFQ/VhmiMPaw8CI/AAAAAAAAHac/kP8D4LvkFHQ/s1600/DSCN0511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZA67Ym_qAFQ/VhmiMPaw8CI/AAAAAAAAHac/kP8D4LvkFHQ/s320/DSCN0511.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
ok back to the project at hand.... bending the arches on the jig ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IH_BodG71Ls/VhmiOlBQz8I/AAAAAAAAHak/PA1NQPdZyZc/s1600/DSCN0513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IH_BodG71Ls/VhmiOlBQz8I/AAAAAAAAHak/PA1NQPdZyZc/s320/DSCN0513.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-md0QqIV3t2Q/VhmiTtIMkjI/AAAAAAAAHas/KHVy9P2o-cs/s1600/DSCN0512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-md0QqIV3t2Q/VhmiTtIMkjI/AAAAAAAAHas/KHVy9P2o-cs/s320/DSCN0512.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The first row we did.. arches are about 32" apart... we are going to use frost blankets not plastic to cover these... for several reasons.... heat build up ... and water... etc..<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
yes we moved that trellis that was at the end </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
When I get my frost blanket on one down the road I will show you guys pictures... I am excited and hopeful.. we will see how the winter veggies do growing through the winter....<br />
<br />
While he was bending the rods I made him some snacks<br />
Almond flour, walnut, chocolate chip cookies These are so good.. nothing but almond flour, walnuts, maple syrup, walnut oil and chocolate chips , baking soda, salt.. thats it... sooo good<br />

I saw while I was out that winter vegetable seedlings were in the garden centers as well... One thing I saw that surprised me was the "other" kind of onion starts.. the one we buy in the spring that are in bundles and have little green tops on them... Yep I saw those at two garden centers today.. I thought mmmmm wonder how that would work out.......<br />
<br />
No I didn't buy any of those kind of onions today.... BUT...... honeyman is framing in the ends on one hoop frame this weekend, that will give me two rows to work with.. putting in a door on each end and we are covering it all in plastic! I am going to see how growing inside it for the winter does....<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Its my understanding these are called onions sets... the ones in the bundles that have the green tops on them too that are out in the spring are called onion starts.... if I have this straight lol</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These are the ones I planted last year (yellow kind) that I wound up drying the tops and the bottoms and were so great. They never bulbed into big onions but they were great onions. They also dried so vibrant and pretty. They were like green onions on steriods LOL... Kinda the size of a nice leek.. I dried the tops and the whites... </div>

<br />
<br />
Though we have warmed back up sighhhh 90 today and the next week 92, up to 95... now that doesn't make me feel much like winter veggies need to be out and if my hoop frame was all in plastic and only a door on each end to vent it????? I am thinking that it would be way to warm in there for winter vegetables at this stage... But I am going to plant it when I think we are safe to stay out of the 90s.. I may need to go ahead and pick up some cabbage seedlings now and just baby them in their six packs till I can plant them. I am thinking some Brussels sprouts as well... I have lots of greens seeds I am excited about and I am goin to try some fall radishes and try some beets and turnips.... I have never had a beet do squat here and I am hopeful that maybe over the winter I can get some to do something!!! Our weather is weird.. We are all over the place in the winter.. warm, cold, freezing in double digits, single digits.. you just don't know what its going to do. We can get snow, ice and we can also be wearing shorts on Christmas so its a crazy mix of temps here in the winter... lately our winters have been fairly cold so if that is a repeat the plastic covered hoop house should hopefully work out well!!!<br />
<br />
Henny Penny I mailed the seeds today... they said 6 days... but could be sooner she said...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-65687819824103438522015-10-03T09:04:00.001-07:002015-10-03T09:04:13.478-07:00Drew the name for the seeds and planted some onion setsOkay guys I put in the names folded up in a big bowl, though there were not many. I guess everyone has more seeds than they know what to do with LOL.... so I put the bowl down for Keeper to pick.. The piece of folded paper he nosed first I took out of the bowl... ..... Henny Penny your name is the one Keeper nosed in the bowl first!!<br />
<br />
So send me your address and I will get these seeds off in the mail to you!<br />
<br />
Its been gorgeous here the last couple days! I cannot stay in the house. I keep going back out to either sit and watch the chickens which I love to do or work on some project out there. I even managed to finish a book yesterday while sitting out watching the chickens...<br />
<br />
I planted a bag of onion sets as I was pleased with how those onions did last year. No they never did bulb into big onions but I dried all the nice big green tops and I dried the white parts which were like giant green onions. They have been wonderful to cook with. I put in one bag and I have decided to pick up another bag when I am out next to put in as well!<br />
<br />
<br />
I took a couple days off from work. I was fast approaching burn out.... I had been working so much. I will be off work a couple more days then back at it :O).<br />

Now I have this pile of seeds..... I threw out ( shudder I know it was hard but I did if they were older than 2012)..... In this pile there are seeds from 12, 13,14 etc... They have been stored properly. If you would like to have these just leave a comment to that effect and I will put everyone in a hat and draw a name.. There is a little bit of everything in these. Tomatoes, peppers, onions, beets, cucumbers, radish, carrots, beans, spinach, chard, squash, etc.<br />
Some of the companies they came from, Baker Creek, Peaceful Valley Organics, Territorial Seeds, Sustainable Seed Company, etc.... :O)<br />
<br />
Sorry but I am going to have to keep the shipping to the United States<br />
I will leave this post up for a few days to give everyone time to see it then draw the name and let everyone know where the seeds are going...<br />

<br /><div>
Dollar wise what is your time worth?</div>
<div>
Emotionally what is your time worth?</div>
<div>
Physically what is your time worth?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When you really put some thought into this.... you maybe surprised to find out that your time is worth more than you ever imagined! :O)</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Food for thought for sure!</div>

With me working so much it had totally got out of hand. We got so much done!!! Its nearly back up to snuff!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We have a bit more to do but the worst is done.</div>
<div>
I didn't take any before pictures but these are the after photos</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The raspberries are no more.. all dug out finally! The Kiowa Blackberries grew under ground to the rows and have sprouted up by the cinder blocks.. I didn't dig those out.. I think I will use them to root more plants off of.. so I will stick them into pots of dirt over the winter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Raspberries gone!! Texas just isn't a good place to grow them. To hot I think.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Didn't make it to the back row as you see it still needs weeding and cleaning up.. I have Kiowas in it. and some bush cherries.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

rows ready for hay ... another day :O).. you can see my soaker hoses snaked in all the rows. They are a must have here. Watering is a major ordeal in Texas. With the heat we have and the lack of rain we have.. its a never ending battle to keep things watered. I call Texas the devils playground and not because people are bad here... but because of the heat and the extreme climate we have here... Its tough. Realllllllllly tough to garden, have a orchard etc. here. You have to reallllly want to do it here I think. Its so hard. I get discouraged myself.. But I just have to garden its just part of me. So I keep at it...<br />

So let me ask you guys this, do any of you guys live on a river? Have any river front property? If so I would like to know what you think about it, would you do it again, have you had flooding issues? What are your thoughts in general about having property that is on a river? If you had enough acres to back off of it or sit above it would you think it was a better idea? </div>

I am so tickled. We had some drama around here when I let him out though. Paddlefoot other Bantam rooster....who has never ever had a dominant bone in his body decided he was top dog rooster apparently while Greystone was in the crate recovering and that Greystone wasn't welcome when he got out. I was just so annoyed with that Paddlefoot after Greystone saved all of them from the raccoon. So I promptly scooped up Paddlefoot put him in the crate the coop and let him live in there for a couple days and nights! I figured well it was after Greystones hospital stay in the crate that Paddlefoot decided to be so ugly to him. So I hoped that if I put Paddlefoot in time out for a few days in there and let him think about the errors of his ways ( I know but I didn't know what else to do) Today I let Paddlefoot out. He has fussed at Greystone since getting out but he hasn't ran him down and jumped on top of him to beat him up like he did the first time I let Greystone out! I think he learned his lesson. They can dance and take a stance and carry on at one another but I don't want any blood drawn around here!! Sooooo with luck that fixed the problem.<br />
<br />
I ordered a few vegetable seeds. I was out of cucumbers seeds and my pepper seeds were down very low. I don't ever like to be without seeds. Call me crazy but they are like insurance the way I see them. Yes I am like every gardener I have a gazillion seeds but I actually was low on a few things. I have not been good about saving seeds the last couple years. I save tomato seeds every year. They are super easy. I like to save pepper seeds but last year my peppers didn't do a thing with the flooding and bad start and the year before I managed to not save any either. I also ordered a new to me butternut squash to try. Wathams don't do a thing here for some reason so I am going to try a different one. I ordered Franchi seeds. I am very, very pleased with the seeds I have ordered from this Italian company. http://www.growitalian.com/vegetable-seeds/ So I decided to go back to them for seeds. I am not associated with them just really like their quality. You also get a lot of seeds for your money. Way more than the average packages of seeds. Which is really nice because most seeds will last a few years easily if stored properly. If you have someone to order with you could easily split the packages and have enough for several people.<br />
<br />
<br />
The round peppers are suppose to be great pickler peppers. They even told how to pickle them on the site. I used to grow Sans Marzano tomaotes every year but it seemed like they were just getting smaller every year when I grew them.. I do like them for paste and sauces. I could grow them and not deal with tomato end rot where if I try to grow a roma its a no go. They get end rot every single time I try to grow them where as the Sans Marzano dont. So I decided get some fresh seeds, this is suppose to be a large variety.<br />

<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341697669273675379.post-54037223979488864132015-09-18T16:22:00.001-07:002015-09-18T16:22:26.406-07:00It was my fault...I could just kick myself... I really let them down. Last night or should I say this morning around 3 a.m..... Keeper went off like a rocket.. barking... and it was his serious bark. I heard at first what I thought in my sleepy fog was the wild pigs squealing. We have a lot of them here and that is normal. They fight over the corn at honeymans deer feeder...<br />
<br />
Then it hit me .. the chickens! We didn't put up the chickens or the goats before bed!!!!!!!<br />
<br />
I quickly told honeyman and he jumped out of bed grabbed his gun and was out of the room like a bullet.. I wasn't far behind him...<br />
<br />
We had spent the day at the RV show in Dallas looking at campers... we ate out.. we had gone by Whole Foods for a few items... I don't know why we didn't think to put up the animals.. I know crazy.. but we didn't .. neither of us! I will admit I usually do it so I can see honeyman forgetting but me?<br />
<br />
So we get out there and Greystone one of our Bantam roosters is in the chicken corral not the coop... grey feathers all around on the ground.. he is upright and walking though very stunned... I was afraid to go in the coop as I just knew there would be chickens missing heads all in here..Stupid raccoons..<br />
<br />
I picked up greystone and he was..... well shell shocked..though not bleeding anywhere... I carried him to the chicken coop as soon as honeyman said the rest of the chickens were ok.. Apparently Greystone must have tried to fight off the predator that I can only assume was a raccoon as there were feathers inside the coop as well and all the eggs were gone (which should have been there since I had not been in there to get them) sighhh........ he is like that..Greystone is the protector and though he is in rooster size a chihuahua he thinks he is a Great Dane rooster... bless his heart..<br />
<br />
I placed him on the platfrom / roost with everyone else and they huddle around him surrounding him .. the big girls literally enclosed him nearly burying him... then little D"uccle squeezed her way through the big girls to get to him.. He and D'uccle have a thing going you know..<br />
<br />
I couldn't have felt worse.. It was my fault.. I was thanking everything in the universe no one was dead.. We then locked up the coop and went to lock up the goat gate as well!! .. I laid in bed feeling like the worst person on the planet... I talked to God a while. That always calms me down..<br />
<br />
Got up this morning.. Greystone was pale or his comb and waddles were.. He was in shock no doubt it seemed.. He did get his color back in his comb and waddles fairly quickly and I thought he will be ok.. whew...but as the day went on... his face was swollen his one eye in question ... sighhhh<br />
<br />
I have him in a large sized dog crate inside the chicken coop ... as he needs time to heal.. I have made him doctored water and fed him eye droppers full.. its got arnica, vitamins, electrolytes, and a dab of molasses in it.. I have made him a salad of organic corn, organic sage and comfrey , organic garlic.. its all diced up for him.. I have also put his regular organic chicken food in there .. I did get him to eat some cantaloupe during the day... I picked fresh rose petals and sprinkled them all in his fresh hay bed in case he wanted some of those to eat.. I cannot even tell you how bad I feel... this was allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll my fault.. I forgot to close the chicken coop up... geesh I could just kick myself from here to Dallas .....<br />
<br />
He surely is not himself.. the shock and physical attack ... I just want him to be able to get well..<br />

, he sleeps standing.. he just nods off.. I hope its because he is healing .. this is also the side I worry about his vision in .. This side of his face is swollen. Its a miracle he is alive... We have had raccoons get in our coop before and it wasn't pretty.. it took a lot of fixing to get it so they couldn't manage their way in...Now as long as we close and lock the door they can't get in... uggg again I could just kick myself... sighhhh ...<br />

I am hopeful he will recover.. but I just don't know at this point.. sometime I think he is going to be ok and then others he seems to out of it and bad that I don't know :O(........ thankfully the goats were fine,we closed their gate after closing up the chickens... I guess my brain was just off in some other world last night.. Honeyman felt bad too and said he should have put them up too that he knew it needed doing just as well as me.. I said well we just totally screwed up, didn't we... sighhhhh<br />

The weather was really nice over the weekend. We worked outside a lot! I pruned the two big flower beds, the crape myrtles in them were so grown up from the bottoms they looked like out of control bushes and frankly were a over grown mess. Now all trimmed up and tidy looking. When these are all big the beds will be really great looking. I had 3 clearance rose of sharons I needed to get in the ground. I wound up putting them in the bigger bed with the crape myrtles.<br />
Hard to believe what a mess this bed was before I trimmed them all up.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The two mulberry trees trimmed up still need to pile a good amount of hay mulch around them and</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
the second bed with crape myrtles done. </div>

Fruit orchard trimmed up so you could actually walk through the gates.. The chinese wisteria has yet to ever bloom. Its suppose to be a pink wisteria.<br />
Love the knock out roses... best decision to use those for a fence. This fall I am going to trim my fruit orchard trees way back. I can't manage them at these tall heights. I have seen how some keep them very low as to make them easy to take care of and pick. I plan to do this.<br />

I have been working on getting things I have in pots (which is a lot) in the ground. A lot I started from seed but some are clearance finds. I have planted several tallow trees this summer and one mimosa. I am trying to keep from creating new watering areas. I already have so many areas I drag hoses to. I use soaker hoses as much as as possible but no getting around dragging the big hoses. </div>
<div>
Elderberries are going over by the pond. Those will be planted this fall. The two Fuyu trees I started from seed have done super! Those are going by the four I bought bare root last fall and planted. Those are doing really good as well. I will have created a new watering area with the elderberries but it will be right by the pond so that should work out well. Its really the best place for them.</div>

I got fresh hay mulch around my fuyus out front this last weekend. Hard to tell in these photos but they really have grown quite a bit!<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
I have a lot of clean up to do from this last years garden. Lots of prep work to do to get them ready for spring. Its almost time to plant my elephant garlic which seems impossible. It seems like just a few weeks ago I harvested it! It did so well last season (one of the few things that did) Elephant garlic is the only garlic I am planting now. It does super good here and its storage life is just fantastic.<br />
<br />
I am really embarrassed by how bad my garden looks. But a few weekends of work and I can get it back up to par... I actually told honeyman at one point over the summer that I was not going to put in a garden next spring. I know shocking. But after the dismal garden I had this summer due to the flooding and me feeling overwhelmed from working... yes well I have gotten over both LOL and I am itching to go again on the garden. Of course the cooler weather is helping a lot! Its been below 100 and that always makes me want to be outside in the dirt.</div>
<div>
<br />
yes this first one is scary isn't it... plants to be pulled up. Tomato cages to be put away for the winter. The rows need new compost, dirt, and to be hayed over. You guys have never seen photos like this of my garden on this blog LOL... But I guess the point is, its all going to be okay. :O)... </div>

I got these 2 rows almost cleaned out! Need to add some dirt, compost, and cover deep in hay till spring. We still need to get the shade covers off the hoop frames and put those away for winter as well.<br />

The chickens ,, here is the crew...<br />
We have the bantams which I am loving and then regular hens. I didnt name my regular hens but I did the bantams... We have Paddlefoot (rooster) we have Greystone (rooster) then we have Esmeralda and Penelope and D'uccle... the little gold one is D'uccle. They are all grown... Can you believe how little D'uccle is.. LOL we named her that because my best bud told me that is the variety she is and I just love saying D'uccle so that is her name lol. I have never had Bantams before, not only are they sooo pretty and calm but they lay really cute little eggs. LOL We boil them up and slice them on salads or make bite sized devil eggs out of them lol. They are just to cute. The chickens and the eggs :O) These are not the best photos but they all have feathers on their feet and are just so pretty.<br />

Today I ordered my new computer. As you guys know my old one has been on its last leg for a bit now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There were somethings I wanted to be able to use my new computer for that I had not my old one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The one I ordered is touted as a gaming computer but I don't want it for gaming. I want it for its ability to handle programming/coding. Since I had to buy a new one this was something I wanted my new one to be able to handle well and be well suited for. More on this in the future :O)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am working on two big soft fold roman shades right now. Work in progress as you can see.. I will show you guys the finished results when done... its a fold at a time LOL.. So glad to have the table extension honeyman built for me. Its saving my bacon on these guys for sure!</div>
