Question... updated with answer

I am trying to figure out what its called when brick is applied in this manner, where the grout is left squished out on purpose. The only picture I could find of this technique was the one below. Its not the best example of this I have seen...Anyone out there know what this type brick technique is called?

Thank you 1st man your answer has been most helpful... I looked up Squeezed mortar joint and weeping mortar joint and sure enough both bring good results!!! So there you have it folks that is what this type joint is called in the brick world!

Now picture this type mortar with brick that is more a multi colored stone brick with a softer grout color than grey something softer to go with the stone colors in the brick, say a soft earth colored grout.....some nice somewhat rusted patina corrugated tin used as siding in places and then where one needs some wood for trim lets go with some rough rustic cedar boards stained appropriately in color.... I think we need a metal roof for sure on this cabin as well in either grey or red maybe? ......mmmm ya that would make a nice cabin.. I am working on ideas and draws ups for a cabin in the Ozark mountains where as you guys know we hope to retire.... oh ya the decorator days are coming back to me now! True its been a few years since I worked in that industry but oh my I do believe I have awakened the decorator in me :O)......

Is that a flagstone rock floor I see in that cabin? Okay I am getting a head of myself .. one thing at a time... no wait it looks like 12" wide knotty pine floors... actually I think its both! Oh my!!

I love this look...reminds me of European structures I've seen. I'd love to know what it's called as well.

Ive laid a few bricks in my time, and would expect to be fired if I did that type of work. I would call it "Lazy type".

I've seen it called "weep grout" and also "squeezed joint". Check out these two links:

and

Hope that helps. By the way, I'm not affiliated with any company, ha, just did some creative googling for you.

Awesome ideas. I really think the look is very neat. Heck my mind is swimming with ideas for your cabin, ha. Can't wait to see/hear what you come up with.

I've definitely seen this result on some of the oldest homes around here and they are usually the chimneys that are sort of hidden in the walls. I find it primitively attractive though and it says it was done by their own hard work. I imagine it is an art form now and it will be a very cool idea. The cabin we own in the Black Hills has the chimney done like that also. It was done by my Father-in-law, so I know he wasn't an artist, but it is still very very cool to me!

I like the look. If I did it my husband would tell me it's called the fast, sloppy way. ;o)
