Today I planted a few things in my winter rows, we are suppose to get rain with luck tomorrow through Sunday we have a chance.
I will weigh down the frost blanket edges for sure. I used my little clips I use for everything to attach it to the low tunnel frame for now. I tied knots on the ends. The other end you cant see I put some boards.. We have rebar sticks in our left over pile....I will put those on the side that the high hoop tunnel poles are on.. I will work it form the inside so that side I won't be taking the frost blanket on and off. Figured the rebar would work really good for the side I won't be opening. My frost blanket has a seam right down the middle as as you see... Honeyman ordered this frost blanket last year. He didn't think about how a 6 feet wide piece wouldn't work on a low tunnel by the time it went over it... I said no problem I can just sew two pieces together..I folded the seams insides themselves and made two seams down it so I feel it will hold just fine. he had got a 100 foot long piece. So that worked out perfect for me to cut it in half and sew it back together... I am going to order a 10 foot wide piece by 50 foot for the other row. I have to get that done.
Now on another gardening issue.....I am thinking next spring of adding more depth to all of my raised beds.. I was thinking maybe another row of cinder blocks but ($$ ouch) or using that metal sheeting or something. Any thoughts from you guys on adding more depth inexpensively to my raised beds?
On the cabin..... No we are not getting it. Real Estate is one of the most aggravating things .... doesn't matter buy or sell!!! geesh....... I was very disappointed but it was what it was and there wasn't anything I could do about it...... well onward and upward right.....

I hope your winter garden does good. You seem to be able to grow anything! Sorry about the house. I recently found the most beautiful remodeled old farmhouse for sale in the NC mountains at a price we could afford. I fell in love with it! I never could even get the real estate agent to call me back. I guess it must have sold just before I called.
Oh that's too bad about the cabin. The right place is bound to come along.
I guess it would be a pain to dig the current beds deeper?
Hmmm....what about putting wood, sort of like our raised beds, just like sitting it top of the ground, but sitting it on "top" of the dirt on your cinder block beds? I thought about it after remembering when I built our raised beds, I had a large square (12 of them) and two rectangles that were just open boxes. I put them on the ground where i wanted them...so I was thinking what if you built boxes like that, so that they were the same dimensions as the inside "walls" of your cinder block beds and then set them on top of the soil and added more to the boxes? Then you have the box depth plus the cinder block depth? Just a random thought.
Sorry about the cabin but that just means the right place for you hasn't come along yet.
Up here we would need frost bunkers with space heaters inside to grow anything past about November. This year though who knows as it was like 82 today.
Maybe if you pull up the walk way cover and dig the walkways deeper than the beds will be taller. Use the dirt for more beds and put the cover back down.
I LOVE garden experiments...can't wait to see how your winter garden works out. I'm also quite envious of your tunnels - that's something I've had in the back of my mind for years (nice big tunnels that span a couple of beds and are tall enough to walk underneath) ever since I saw Eliot Coleman doing it. That's too bad about the cabin - I often think of buying property as a roller coaster ride...lots of ups and downs with little in between.
Wish I could give you a good idea on the beds, but the best I can come up with is keeping an eye on kijiji or craig's list for free bricks or pavers. Not as uncommon as it sounds as people are often ripping up walkways, etc. and getting rid of the old stuff is both costly and labour intensive.
